Southwest Pretzels (print)
Provided By: Kerry
Description: Slightly spicy soft pretzels- Jeremy ate half of them in one sitting!
Ingredients
4 cups flour
1 Tbl sugar
1 pkg (1/4 oz) quick rise yeast
1.5 tsp salt
1 tsp. dried minced onion
1/2 tsp. chili powder
1/4 tsp ground cumin
1/4 tsp. cayenne pepper
1.5 cups warm water
1 egg beaten or melted butter
Coarse salt
velveeta/salsa dip
Directions
1) Beat together 2 cups of flour, sugar, yeast, salt, minced onion and spices until moistened. Slowly add remaining flour to form a soft dough
2) Knead for 4-6 minutes on a floured surface.
3) Cover and let rest for 10 min.
4) Divide dough into 16 equal pieces (I use a pizza cutter) and roll each into a 15 inch rope.
5) Cover ropes and let rest for 10 min.
6) Twist ropes into pretzel shapes and place on greased cookie sheet. Brush with egg. <--I am going to replace with melted butter next time so that I will like them more :)
7) Bake at 350 for 15 minutes.
8) Brush again with egg or butter and spinkle salt on them.
9)Bake for 10-13 minutes until golden brown.

While pretzels are baking, mix salsa and velveeta cheese together for a dipping sauce.
